When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? —Psalm 8:3–4, ESV
The Study of Starlight is a creative project I began in March 2026 with the goal of releasing new material in the ambient, smooth jazz, and EDM instrumental genres, as well as “reimagining” some of my previous songwriting from the mid- to late-1990s, inspired by faith, trust, and perhaps a little bit of pixie dust living next to the Disney Bubble™ near Orlando, Florida, and where the rockets take off at Cape Canaveral.
A little over thirty years ago I served as a worship keyboardist, writer, and arranger for a pair of churches in the Southern California area (both of which no longer exist—Faith Community Church in Santa Ana and Faith Christian Fellowship Church [originally Filipino Christian Fellowship Church] in Hawaiian Gardens), performing on a Yamaha DX-7II and a busted-up Akai Professional X-7000 sampling keyboard (and sometimes guitar and/or piano), programming Cakewalk on an equally beat-up PC with a then state-of-the-art wavetable synthesizer board.
When I relocated to Florida with my then-spouse in 2000, no opportunities to serve in worship ministry ever came up, so as the inspiration dried up, so did my musical output. Life then happened, and by 2008, as a result of my own addictions and a layoff, I lost everything—spouse, son, home, job.
I began in recovery, remarried in 2012—only for my second spouse to suddenly and inexplicably pass away in 2016—and undertook a career in data and reporting, which is still my 9-to-5 (or, rather, 8-to-4) job.
I was diagnosed Type 1 Autistic in 2005 and spent twenty years under pharmacological “stablization” before greater health issues required that I wean off. Now I have to figure out what to do with newly unrestrained emotional and creative energy. Thus, the music of thirty years ago is being resurrected along with new creative output.
Starting with the release of “Genesis” in on April 23, 2026 (my 54th birthday), the stellar phoenix rises from the ashes.
